May 04 - DCMA's Annual Get Together

Each year the DCMA has an annual meeting for our members, want to be members, patrons, and to honour our volunteers.

Held off site, each year in a different municipality. This year it is Melancthon, and the event will be in the Horning’s Mills WI Hall. Meet our many volunteers and thank them for their work at the DCMA.

The highlight of the day will be the first public introduction to the DCMA’s Five-Year Strategic Plan.

After the meeting you will be invited on a walking tour through Horning’s Mills with Martin Hunt.

After the walk, we will send you off with a driving tour guide through Melancthon Township.

April 07 - Lunch at The Globe: Leaders of the Dufferin Youth Festival of the Arts

We are pleased to welcome the leaders of the Dufferin Youth Festival of the Arts. They have listened to and acted upon their challenge.

The Festival is not a competition. It’s a celebration for young people throughout the County to
meet and enjoy each other’s art – be it dance, music, painting, or poetry. What an idea! Enjoy. Be happy!

In the words of one participant, “I loved the festival. It was the best day ever! I hope I go next year!” (Grade 3 student at Parkinson C.P.S.)

April 6 - Two Exciting Exhibits: Art From the Heart & Betty Scale Hendrie

Each day our eyes pass by hundreds of objects. Let your eye stop and rest on a folk object made with the colours, skills and artistry of an untrained eye. Let them enjoy seeing the skill of assembling everyday objects into artistry. Notice the found manufactured objects, produced for everyday use, yet designed or embellished in ways reflecting a finer art. Smile at something made for no apparent use or as deliberate folly. Enjoy the objects in this exhibition. Each one can teach you about the history of our local community and the history of the people of Canada.

Opening of the DCMA Fine Art Collection Exhibit – Betty Scale Hendrie

Born in Bushey Heath, London England in 1916, yet raised in India, Betty Scale Hendrie immigrated to Canada in 1943, a war bride. She was a member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolours and had a farm in Mono, where her studio was located. Her works are in private collections in the USA, Europe, Barbados, and Ireland and now we are honoured to have her works here at the DCMA, including her haunting scenes of the Hockley Valley.
