Artist in the Spotlight- A Memorium

Murray Stephen May 16, 1929-February 18, 2013

"Murray was a creative spirit who saw art everywhere and in everything. He loved found art, whether the materials were from nature or from the side of the road. He used nature to create and inspire his work. He had an open mind and appreciated art in all its forms."  Brenda Stephen

Artist Biography
Murray exhibited a talent for the arts at a young age and went to a secondary school in London specializing in that field. While there, he was mentored by and became good friends with renowned Canadian artist Jack Chambers.
After high school, he attended art school in Banff and traveled, making his way down the West Coast to Mexico where he again studied art in San Miguel de Allende.
Murray moved to the Dufferin area in 1960 and fell in love with the landscape of Mulmer and Mono, which feature prominently in his work. An amateur artist who made art for over 60 years, Murray created work in a vast array of styles and media including painting, sculpture, collage, and multi-media. His art continues to be admired by family, friends, colleagues, and all who experience it.
