February 3: Globe Luncheon TBA

The Globe Luncheon on February 03rd will be announced shortly, but in the meantime, did you know:

The Globe Hotel, one of the few early inns still to be seen in Ontario, was built on a Crown Land grant in the 1830′s. The present building, dating from 1859, was one of four hotels in Rosemont, which at that time was a larger community than Alliston. It served as a local pub, and also as a stopping point for the stage coach. It played host to travellers, salesmen, and even Fenian and other political gatherings. Prohibition in 1919 curbed its legal activities, but it still accepted overnight guests until 1955. A century has altered its outward appearance only a little from the original solid, no-nonsense attitude, it represented. The interior has now been restored and once again the old dining room welcomes guests with an early Ontario ‘Bill of Fare’.

And if you want to know more, David Waters does a fantastic job of  highlighting The Globe Restaurant in his post - Day 349 of 365 - on his blog 365 Things To Do in Orangeville!

January 18 Making Fall Colours Work with JohnDavid Anderson

Spend another day with JohnDavid Anderson, who describes himself as a Canadian contemporary
impressionist. JohnDavid paints tonally with rich colour and an impressionist character. He is not driven by the subject but by the light. JohnDavid likes to paint alla prima (all in one session - perfect for a workshop), to keep the painting fresh, loose, colourful and gestural.

This workshop will focus on how to make fall colours work in a landscape. Learn how to choose colours to depict the fall landscape, and to achieve balance, impact and success in the painting.

Victoria Park Community Centre, Mono Mills

January 06 - Globe Luncheon with Jane Ohland Cameron

January 6: Lunch at the Globe with Jane Ohland Cameron, Author, Scriptwriter, Director & Playwright in Residence at Theatre Orangeville

Jane’s work with actors in Orangeville is “beyond outstanding”. She works with actors with developmental disabilities and helps these young people find their voices on stage. You may have seen some of her work at Theatre Orangeville. These include The Imagination Express, In Search of Slumber Mountain, and Abba Cadabra, a script based on the music of ABBA.

Jane’s particular skill is building a play based on the actors’ abilities. In essence, unlike most playwrights who write the play and then select the actors, Jane meets with the actors and they builds the play.

She is currently working on a new piece which will be presented at Theatre Orangeville on April 16-17, 2014. Jane will share some of her tips on working with these actors and will encourage us to never give up!
