Sept 11 - Nov 13 - Glenn Godfrey & Arnold De Graff Show at the Dufferin County Museum

Glenn Godfrey will be showing new works, including drawing, painting and multimedia at the Dufferin County Museum & Archives, opening September 11. This work will be in the Silo Gallery. Glenn works almost exclusively on commission and this is his first gallery show in a number of years. These pieces will be available for purchase. Please come on out!

Come and join Arnold De Graaff (painting pictured above) on Sunday afternoon, September 11, from 2-4 pm for the opening of his new show. It will be a bit of a celebration since he has not had a show for the last three years. He will give a brief talk (15 min.) on how his painting has evolved over the years and how every painting is autobiographical. You can preview his paintings (old and new) on his updated website, www.arnolddegraaffartist.com. There will be cards of his paintings and handmade booklets created from Arnold’s artwork by his partner Rita Reitsma.

The DCMA is located on the northeast corner of the intersection of Airport Road and Highway 89, between Shelburne and Alliston. There is ample parking for tour buses. The DCMA is fully wheelchair accessible, (with the exception of the second floor of the Replica McCutcheon House).

Sept 28 - Oct 10 - Diana Hillman’s Open Studio at Silver Creek Farm

September 24 and 25, 10 am - 5 pm; October 1 and 2, 10 am - 5 pm; October 8 and 9, 10 am - 5 pm; or by appointment

Once again the historic Silver Creek Farm will be showing an eclectic collection of contemporary art during the Headwaters Arts Festival. This year, guests Rosemary Molesworth and Gail Prussky will join the group. Rosemary Molesworth's wonderfully evocative and amusing imagery from ancient and modern sources inspire her decorative functional pottery. Gail Prussky's dreamlike, abstract acrylic paintings draw the viewer into her mind for a moment.

Susan Powell's watercolour nudes and landscapes are created with a passionate eye and Ian Sinclair’s hand-crafted rustic furniture is made from carefully chosen wood to create accent pieces for gardens and homes. Diana Hillman's unique Points of View oils (pictured above) delight us and allow us to enjoy scenes of country and city life; ferris wheels in country fields, passing views from her car window or every day pastoral settings. Hugh Russel's sculptures capture movement and moments in bronze allowing us the time to get wrapped up in the emotion of his subject and to weave our own stories around what we see.

Diana Hillman’s Open Studio at Silver Creek Farm is located at 16849 Kennedy Rd., Caledon. For more information: 519-927-5639 or visit online at www.silvercreekcaledon.com.

Book Early for Globe Luncheons!

Where did the summer go? Time to meet again, eat a nice lunch, and pick up a few gems of wisdom from our friends and neighbours. It’s less than a month until our first lunch, this time tied into the AGM of DAC.

September 12
Jackie Durnform & Sandra Lackie, Creemore Hundred Mile Store

Last spring I picked up a package of “snap peas” carefully wrapped in cellophane. I salivated for a nice pea dinner until I read “Packaged in China”! Yuck! All this by way of introducing out first speakers, from the Creemore Hundred Mile Store, Jackie Durnform and Sandra Lackie. These dynamos will explain the wisdom, beauty, and creativity in raising and eating local meat, vegetables, fruits, and grains. No need to ship these foods by air freight!

October 3
To be announced

November 7
To be announced

December 5
Beckie Morris, Theatre Orangeville

Theatre Orangeville’s December play is A Christmas Carol. Probably more important than the actors and director are the “wizards” who make it happen. Lead wizard Beckie Morris will talk about the amazing amount of complex work required to stage a play and the challenges she encounters before, during, and after any performance.

A gentle reminder that we have reluctantly raised our price for the luncheons and speakers to $20.00.

Reservations

We continue with Judy and Paul Lansing as our “ticketmaster” outlet. Please phone them to reserve at 519-9424049.  Also phone if you need to cancel! Phone by the Friday before the luncheon. We give Beth and David our numbers on Saturday morning so that they can order sufficient food and we are billed according to that number. As Beth and David always have a little extra, we can add a few last minute members up to Sunday night, but we are billed for the number we quote on Saturday morning. If you find you can attend but have no reservation, call Judy up to Sunday night to see if there is space.

If you reserve and do not cancel, we will have to send you a bill! We would rather have you there! Book as early as  possible, preferably right after the previous month’s event.
