April 07 - Lunch at The Globe: Leaders of the Dufferin Youth Festival of the Arts

We are pleased to welcome the leaders of the Dufferin Youth Festival of the Arts. They have listened to and acted upon their challenge.

The Festival is not a competition. It’s a celebration for young people throughout the County to
meet and enjoy each other’s art – be it dance, music, painting, or poetry. What an idea! Enjoy. Be happy!

In the words of one participant, “I loved the festival. It was the best day ever! I hope I go next year!” (Grade 3 student at Parkinson C.P.S.)

Two of these recent stars of Joseph and the Technicolor Dreamcoat will hopefully perform for us. These talented young people and others brought chills to Pat and Gary Vipond when they heard them perform in Orangeville.

September 29 - Sylvia Tyson & Wendell Ferguson Concert

Sylvia Tyson and Wendell Ferguson
Presented in cooperation with Headwaters Arts
Orangeville Opera House
Sat., Sept. 29th, 2012 @ 8pm

Many will be familiar with Wendell Ferguson as one of the most versatile and talented performers on the Canadian country music scene. He has long been recognized for his work in various country acts, and his own solo recordings; while his wit and humour has also been a trademark. Perhaps he is best known for his virtuosity as a guitar player, a special talent which has won him numerous accolades.

From the late 1960s to the early 1970s, Sylvia Tyson fronted the country-rock band Great Speckled Bird. More recently, she has been a member of the all-female folk group Quartette. Perhaps her best-known song was "You Were on My Mind", which was originally recorded by Ian and Sylvia in 1964. The song became a massive hit single in the mid-1960s for the San Francisco-based folk-rock band We Five and also for the British pop singer Crispian St. Peters. It has become a rock and roll standard which has been covered numerous times.

Presented by the Orangeville Concert Association at the Orangeville Opera House. For tickets, call 519-942-3423.
